After
the votes were counted, my opponent filed for a recount. I asked my
attorney to help. Not knowing election law, he referred me to Sharon
Blakeney. He said, "She was instrumental during the Florida
Presidential election of 2000."
On
short notice, Sharon showed up promptly for the recount proceedings.
My opponent brought two attorneys; one of them was late, and looked
like he'd slept in an alley.
Just as the recount was about
to start, counsel from the other side made a point that was designed
to derail the recount. Calmly, Sharon made a single, terse statement
that completely restored the integrity of the process, and the
recount continued.
Though we'd won at the polls, that victory
might have been stolen.
Thanks to Sharon Blakeney, our
community has made significant progress over the last few
months.
She is competent, prompt, efficient. She is also
gracious, and without rancor.
